Theodor Bilharz Research Institute Reopens the Renovated Economic Accommodation Wards in a New Milestone to Serve Patients and Advance the Institute’s Healthcare System

As part of the comprehensive development plan underway at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, and within a series of successive achievements aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of healthcare services, the institute’s administration continues to implement its ambitious projects on the ground.
In this context, Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute and Chairman of the Board, inaugurated the Economic Accommodation and Organ Transplantation Wards after the completion of extensive renovations and upgrades. The works were carried out under his patronage and supervised by the Development Committee headed by Professor Dr. Ahmed Azzam. This step reflects the administration’s commitment to hands-on follow-up of the development plan and to raising the standard of medical services provided to patients.
The renovations included the reopening of 11 fully equipped rooms, designed to offer patients premium hotel-style accommodation. This represents a serious step toward upgrading the Economic Treatment Unit in line with quality and medical accreditation standards, paving the way for licensing liver and kidney transplant procedures at the institute.
It is worth noting that during his recent visit to the institute, Professor Dr. Hossam Othman, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Innovation and Scientific Research, toured the ongoing renovation works alongside Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz. He expressed his satisfaction with the tangible efforts he witnessed at the institute and commended the significant achievements across various sectors—particularly in the economic accommodation wards, which mark a qualitative leap in the level of services provided to patients.
For his part, Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz expressed his pride in this achievement and his appreciation for the efforts invested in the project. He emphasized that the renovation and development of the economic wards come within an integrated plan the institute is pursuing to enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to patients. This is especially relevant given the institute’s direction toward being accredited as a certified center for organ transplantation. He further noted that this development constitutes a key component in the licensing process for liver and kidney transplantation, which is currently being prepared in coordination with the relevant authorities.
He explained that equipping the rooms according to hotel accommodation standards is not merely intended to improve the patient experience but also reflects the institute’s commitment to providing a safe, integrated therapeutic environment that is worthy of its patients and aligned with scientific advancement—balancing both medical and humanitarian considerations.
This development is part of the institute’s broader strategy to deliver high-quality medical services and reinforce its role as a pioneering research and treatment institution, thereby contributing to the advancement of the healthcare system and serving patients at the highest levels of quality and professionalism.
