Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) continues its pioneering role in training and qualifying doctors through the Egyptian Fellowship Program — one of the core pillars in developing medical competencies at the institute. Several hospital departments have received accreditation from the Egyptian Fellowship, reflecting the institute’s readiness and ongoing commitment to providing a comprehensive training environment that aligns with national clinical education standards.

Accredited departments include Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Nephrology, General Surgery, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Surgical ICU, Anesthesia, Intensive Care, and Urology. Trainees in these departments receive comprehensive clinical training in managing critical cases, ensuring the development of their hands-on medical skills in real-world hospital settings. The fellowship program offers training in patient evaluation, endoscopic procedures, management of gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic coma, biliary obstruction, cardiac echocardiography, outpatient care, dialysis patient follow-up, and more.

The fellowship at TBRI stands out by integrating academic and practical elements, offering weekly lectures, scientific meetings, and clinical case discussions based on actual patient scenarios. It also provides specialized workshops that enhance the educational experience throughout the training period, during which physicians dedicate themselves fully to professional development in line with the Egyptian Fellowship’s standards. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute, honored Dr. Gamal Abdel Nasser from the Republic of Yemen for his outstanding performance and dedication during his training in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ayman Abdel Aziz. This recognition reflects the trainee’s commitment, academic excellence, and clinical competence.

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department is among the institute’s most prominent fellowship departments, annually graduating a number of highly qualified doctors from Egypt and abroad. The department’s high-quality academic and hands-on training reinforces its status as a regional and international center of excellence.
