Distinguished Participation of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute in the 3rd Annual International Cancer Conference at the National Research Centre

As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening its leading role in cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) took part in the 3rd Annual International Cancer Conference 2025, organized by the National Research Centre (NRC), with the participation of a distinguished group of scientists and researchers from Egypt and abroad. 

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director and Chairman of the Board of TBRI, participated in chairing several conference sessions. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Sanaa Botros, Professor of Pharmacology and Supervisor of the TICO office at TBRI, and Prof. Dr. Eman El-Ahwany, Head of  Immunology and Therapeutic Evaluation Division, served on the conference’s scientific review committee. Their participation reflects the institute’s esteemed scientific standing and the research community’s confidence in its academic and professional excellence. 

During the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz and several participants were honored in recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions and TBRI’s role in advancing cancer research. In his remarks following the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Abdel Aziz emphasized that TBRI’s participation in the conference reflects its commitment to harnessing scientific research for the benefit of Egyptian society and to enhancing international scientific partnerships in cancer research and innovative, effective, and safe treatment development. 

He added that this participation continues the institute’s pioneering role in supporting Egypt’s medical and scientific research ecosystem, reaffirming its dedication to being an active part of the ongoing global scientific movement in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Through applied research and innovation, TBRI aims to contribute to the development of precise and safe therapeutic approaches. He also highlighted that such conferences serve as key platforms for strengthening collaboration among researchers and institutions, both locally and internationally, in alignment with Egypt’s national vision to improve healthcare quality and cancer treatment outcomes. 

A delegation of TBRI researchers also delivered several specialized scientific presentations: 

* Prof. Dr. Ehab El-Dabaa, Vice Head of the Division of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Medicinal Chemistry, presented a lecture titled: “Using Nano-Peptide Display Technology to Develop Targeted Biotherapeutics Against Cancer.” 

* Assoc. Prof. Dr. Safia Samir, Assistant Research Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, presented “Urinary Biomarker Analysis as a Diagnostic Tool for Early Detection of Pancreatic Cancer.” 

* Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hend Okasha, Assistant Research Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, presented “Tracking Waterborne Parasites (Cryptosporidium) Among Egyptian Cancer Patients.” 

* Dr. Engy Mohsen, Assistant Researcher in the Department of Immunology and member of the Clinical Nutrition Unit, presented “The Role of Diet in Cancer Prevention and Management.” 

* Dr. Mahmoud Rady, Lecturer in the Department of General Surgery, presented “A New Technique for Pancreatojejunostomy During Whipple Procedure for Pancreatic Cancer.” 

* Dr. Mohamed Fathy, Specialist in the Department of Urology, presented “Management of Small Renal Tumors.” 

The conference was distinguished by the participation of prominent Egyptian scientists and academics, including: 

* Prof. Dr. Hoda Rashdan, Assistant Professor of Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry at the NRC’s Pharmaceutical and Drug Industries Research Institute, who chaired the conference. 

* Prof. Dr. Emad Hassan, Acting Dean of the Pharmaceutical and Drug Industries Research Institute, NRC. 

* Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Sakr, Professor of Plant Biotechnology at NRC, Former President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Chairman of the Arab Society for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and Editor-in-Chief of the Arab Journal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. 

* Prof. Dr. Sahar Ahmed Ali Fadlallah, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science, Cairo University, for Community Service and Environmental Development. 

* Prof. Dr. Nabila Abdel-Maqsoud, Head of the Community Development Committee and Medical and Awareness Convoys at NRC, and Secretary of the Arab Society for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. 

* Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hussein Ashour, Professor of Radiation Physics at the Atomic Energy Authority, former Head of Central Laboratories at the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology, and member of the National Committee for Physics. 

* Major General Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Mostafa Gabara, Professor of Electrochemistry at the Military Technical College. 

All contributed significantly to the success and distinguished organization of the conference, reflecting the excellence and advancement of Egypt’s scientific research community. 

The conference aimed to discuss the latest advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment technologies, and to open channels of cooperation between research institutions and both the medical and industrial sectors, thereby enhancing the national research system and supporting Egypt’s efforts in combating cancer.
