A Memorandum of Understanding Signed between "Theodor Bilharz Research Institute" and "Jiangsu Institute of parasitic diseases in China
In a new step reflecting the depth of scientific collaboration between Egypt and China, and reinforcing the status of TBRI as a leading center for research on endemic diseases, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between TBRI and the Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases in China. The agreement aims to expand academic and research cooperation through developing joint research programs, exchanging expertise, and intensifying efforts on both sides to combat endemic and parasitic diseases.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, and Prof. Dr. Cao Jun, Director of the Jiangsu Institute. Both sides affirmed their commitment to supporting scientific collaboration and exchanging expertise in areas of mutual interest, contributing to the development of innovative research solutions to address health challenges in developing countries.
This agreement marks a new phase in the scientific partnership between the two institutes, as it includes the launch of a joint research program to study endemic parasitic diseases—most notably schistosomiasis—as well as the exchange of researchers and the organization of joint workshops and scientific conferences in both Egypt and China.
The memorandum also emphasizes encouraging joint scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals, enhancing the global standing of both institutions and improving the research capacity of their scientists.
The cooperation will be coordinated on the Egyptian side by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hager Fathy Abdel-Maksoud, Assistant Professor at the Department of Parasitology and Head of the WHO Collaborating Center at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute.
In this context, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz expressed his pride in signing the agreement, affirming that cooperation with the Jiangsu Institute represents a distinguished model of international research partnerships that serve human health and contribute to the advancement of Egypt’s scientific research system.
He pointed out that this step comes within the framework of TBRI’s vision to expand its international collaboration network and exchange research expertise, positively impacting the development of endemic disease research. He noted that the agreement will provide promising opportunities for young researchers to gain advanced scientific experience and engage in joint projects with leading global institutions.
Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz concluded his statement by emphasizing that the institute continuously strives to build strong scientific bridges with international research institutions, believing that scientific openness and international cooperation are the essential pillars for genuine progress in the fields of health and scientific research in Egypt.
