Theodor Bilharz Research Institute Receives Delegation from the National Liver Institute at Menoufia University

As part of enhancing research and training cooperation between Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) and academic and research institutions, TBRI received a delegation from the National Liver Institute at Menoufia University. This visit comes as part of the implementation of the cooperation agreement signed between the two parties last January. The protocol was signed by Prof. Mohamed Shemis, Director of TBRI and Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Prof. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute and Chairman of its Hospitals' Board of Directors.

The delegation from the National Liver Institute, which was conducted under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Farag Al-Qassed, President of Menoufia University, included Dr. Sally Saad Mandour, Director of the Quality and Patient Safety Unit; Dr. Zahraa El-Khatib, Director of Clinics; Dr. Azza El-Khouly, Director of the Occupational Health and Safety Unit; Dr. Roshdy Massad, Deputy Director of the Quality Unit; Ms. Rasha Maher, Member of the Quality Team; Dr. Moumena Abdel Rahman, Member of the Quality Team; and Dr. Samar Ibrahim, Laboratory Safety Officer.

The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Head of the Clinical Surgical Division; Prof. Hanan Ali Said, Head of the Public Health Department and Supervisor of the Quality and Patient Safety Unit; along with several members of the research staff and their assistants from TBRI. The visit involved exchanging points of view and experiences to enhance cooperation prospects between the two institutes.

This visit aligns with ongoing efforts to achieve common goals in healthcare and scientific research, as well as to enhance the quality of medical services by pursuing accreditation from the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR).

It is noteworthy that the TBRI Hospital, under its current strategy and vision, is working towards obtaining GAHAR accreditation, one of the most prestigious certifications ensuring the provision of medical services according to the highest quality and safety standards. This accreditation involves meeting a set of fundamental standards, including hospital management through strategic planning and effective leadership, ensuring the quality of healthcare by following approved medical guidelines, and prioritizing patient safety through effective risk management and infection prevention systems.

Additionally, the accreditation standards emphasize the provision of facilities that meet cleanliness and maintenance requirements, employment of qualified medical staff, continuous training programs, effective communication with patients and their families, and the use of electronic systems for secure management of information and medical records. Regular assessments and continuous improvement based on evaluation outcomes are also integral. In emergencies, the hospital must have a comprehensive emergency plan and ongoing staff training, while complying with local and international health regulations, contributing to the delivery of distinguished and sustainable healthcare services.

In a related context, Dr. Ahmed Taha, President of GAHAR, affirmed during his visit to TBRI to attend the institute's annual conference in February 2025, that TBRI is continuously working to improve its healthcare services by adopting accreditation standards, especially after joining the Supreme Council of University Hospitals. This membership enhances the institute's capacity to provide advanced healthcare services and highlights its prominent role in various scientific research fields.
