Specialized surgical workshop was organized as part of the activities of the annual conference of the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute 2025
Under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abbas Shemis, Director of the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and Chairman of the Conference, and as part of the activities of the annual conference of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute for the year 2025, the Department of General Surgery organized a specialized workshop entitled "Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair". The workshop included live broadcast from the operating rooms, with a distinguished presence of an elite group of laparoscopic surgery professors from Egyptian universities.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Fahim Al-Basyouni, Honorary President of the Egyptian Society of Laparoscopic Surgery, Prof. Dr. Sameh Gabr from Al-Azhar University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Nabil Al-Hawfi from Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Ramadan and Prof. Dr. Rami Al-Zamli from the Students Hospital.
The surgeries were performed by a distinguished team from inside and outside the institute, in an interactive scientific atmosphere that witnessed rich discussions between the attendees and the surgical teams. The workshop reviewed the latest developments in the field of laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery, and concluded with practical recommendations to enhance the quality of surgical services.
In this context, Professor Dr. Mohamed Abbas Shamis, Director of the Institute and Chairman of the Conference, stated that this workshop reflects the commitment of Theodor Bilharz Institute to its pioneering role in developing medical skills and enhancing cooperation between various Egyptian universities and hospitals, and confirms the Institute's constant endeavor to provide the latest technologies and innovations in the surgical field, and to be a leading scientific platform that contributes to developing surgical skills and raising the level of medical and surgical performance in Egypt and the region.
The workshop was organized under the leadership of Professor Dr. Mohamed Saeed, Head of the Department of General Surgery, and Assistant Professor Dr. Hesham El-Meligy, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Head of the Surgical Clinical Division.
The conference and workshop activities will continue for four days, to provide more specialized scientific lectures and fruitful dialogue sessions.
