Biography

Emeritus Professor and former head of Microbiology Department since Nov 2018 till May 2020. Consultant and former director of Research and Consultancy unit TBRI since Jan 2015. Professor of Microbiology since 2008. A graduate of Faculty of Medicine-Cairo University (M.B, B.Ch 1984) with postgraduate studies in clinical chemistry, medical microbiology immunology and molecular genetics (M.Sc1989.; MD, PhD 1997). Post-doctoral international training (i) serologic and molecular methods used for diagnosis of infectious diseases, in Virology unit of NAMRU-3, Cairo (1992) (ii) diagnosis of infectious diseases by molecular techniques in Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Loma Linda University School of Medicine, California, USA (1998) (iii) Emerging mechanisms of antibacterial resistance in Depatment of Microbiology and Immunology of Infectious Diseases, Beaujon hospital, Paris, France ( April 2007) (iv) bacterial genetic sequencing and phylogenetic analysis experiments in Department of Molecular Epidemiology Unit of NAMRU-3 Cairo, (2010).

Research Fields

Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases and Bacterial Antimicrobial Resistance in Gram Negative Bacteria: detection methods by phenotypic and molecular techniques, surveillance studies, molecular epidemiologic studies, epidemiology of Hepatitis C virus in Egypt, detection methods and HCV associated viral infections -- Participated in Egypt Demographic Health Survey (EDHS) on Hepatitis markers in 2008 . - Participated as an organizer and trainer in the training courses and workshops held by TBRI - -Participated in local and international conferences by oral and poster presentations Paticipant and organizer of 4 workshops held by TBRI THEBERA project in collaboration with Egyptian Academy of Scientific research and Technology (ASRT) and Europe for Business (EFB) foundation during (2012-2014) for capacity building of researchers from Egypt focusing on participation of researchers in EU funded projects- Reviewer in international and National medical journal as “Microbial Drug Resistance”- Ann Leibert Press.&“Egyptian journal of national cancer institute” - Evaluation of Collaborative Research Projects funded by Science and Technology development Fund (STDF) . Published 33 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and supervised 4 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D theses Citation Indices in Google scholar: 128 citations; 1734 reads, H index 4
