Qualifications: B. SC. Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University (Chemistry -Botany) (very good May 1979). EMPLOYMENT HISTORY: Chemist at medicinal chemistry department (1981-1988), Assistant lecturer (1988-1993), Lecturer (1993-1999), Associate professor (1999 - 2008), Professor (2008 - 2017), Existing work department head (2011), Deputy Head of Department (2011-2013), Head of Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory (2013-1016). Research Projects: - Principle Investigator of in two internal projects - Co principles investigator in six internal projects - Member in Project financed by International agency - Member (SIDA) in potential antischistosomal activity of bioactivity guided Egyptian plant extract in collaboration between TBRI, Egypt and Department of organic chemistry, Lund University, Sweden. - Supervision of seven Master Thesis and three Ph D Thesis. - Publication of 83 national and international research papers.
Research Fields
Natural products chemistry: Extraction of different bioactive natural products classes as saponins, steroid, triterpenoid and phenolic from local medicinal plants using suitable solvents and devices. Isolation and purification of different chemical constituents from medicinal plant crude extracts using different chromatographic techniques as HPLC, ordinary column chromatography, 2D- paper chromatography and Thin Layer Chromatography. Detection of the nature of the isolated compounds using UV lamp and different spraying reagents . Structure elucidation of the isolated pure compounds using chemical and spectroscopic analysis as UV, IR, Mass spectrometry (EI, FAB, CI-ESI and HRESI-Ms), 1 and 2D NMR experiments like (e.g. 1H-1H COSY, HMBC, HMQC). Biological application as antischistosomal, molluscicidal antimicrobial, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory
