Biography

Prof. Manal Kamel is a Professor of Immunology and former head of the Immunology and Therapeutic Evaluation Department at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI), Giza, Egypt. She is Vice Director of the WHO collaborating center in Egypt since 2022. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, and earned her M.Sc. and M.D. in Immunology and Clinical Pathology. Prof. Kamel received scholarships from DAAD (Germany) and Vienna (Austria) for advanced training in parasitology. She has expertise in antigen preparation, nanotechnology, monoclonal antibodies, and stem cell therapy. She developed point-of-care tests for schistosomiasis, COVID-19, and bladder cancer. She has led multiple national projects and supervised over 23 M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses. In 2023, she received the Golden Medal in biotechnology from the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.

Research Fields

Production of point-of-care (POC) test strips for the rapid diagnosis of various diseases; nanotechnology in diagnosis and therapy; stem cell research (culture and therapy); production of monoclonal antibodies; and antigen preparation.
