A comprehensive medical convoy organized by TBRI for the residents of Wardan Village, providing free services and integrated healthcare as part of its community service initiatives.
As part of its pioneering social role in supporting the governmental plans for sustainable development and achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030—and in line with its commitment to active participation in serving citizens and providing healthcare to the most in-need areas—Theodor Bilharz Research Institute organized an integrated medical convoy to Wardan Village. The event was held under the patronage and presence of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Institute and Chairman of the Board, and was arranged by the Institute’s Community Service and Environmental Development Committee in cooperation with Al-Farouk Medical Center of the Medical Sector at the Al-Gam’eya Al-Shar’eya in Wardan. This initiative reflects the integration between the governmental institutions and civil society to achieve comprehensive health development.
This convoy is part of the Institute’s ongoing efforts to utilize its scientific, research, and human capabilities to serve the community. The convoy provided free medical services, including clinical examinations, preliminary laboratory tests, ultrasound imaging, and free medications for more than 300 residents of the village. Several cases were also referred to the Institute’s hospital to complete necessary examinations, receive treatment, and undergo surgical procedures.
The convoy included around 45 members from the Institute’s medical, research, and administrative teams, representing various departments: hepatogastroenterology, Intensive Care, Nephrology, General Surgery, Urology, Immunology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Public Health, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Environmental Research, Medical Malacology, and the Clinical Nutrition Unit, in addition to a number of technicians.
The convoy also featured educational and awareness lectures on the prevention of parasitic diseases such as schistosomiasis and fascioliasis, as well as methods to reduce infection transmission. Moreover, awareness sessions addressed the impacts of climate change and ways to mitigate its effects on public health. These activities received wide engagement and appreciation from the residents of the village, who expressed their gratitude for the Institute’s efforts to reach them and provide free healthcare support.
In his statement, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz emphasized that community participation represents a fundamental pillar of the Institute’s mission and one of its most important roles alongside research, treatment, and training. He explained that national medical and research institutions bear a great responsibility toward society by harnessing their scientific expertise and human and material resources to serve citizens across the country.
He further pointed out that the medical and awareness convoys organized by Theodor Bilharz Research Institute are guided by a clear vision aimed at bridging the gap between scientific research and the actual needs of the community. This approach supports the goals of sustainable development and translates Egypt’s commitment to health equity and equal access to medical care, especially in villages and underprivileged areas that require specialized health services.
Dr. Abdel Aziz added that Theodor Bilharz Research Institute is always proud of its national and scientific role in combating diseases, noting that the Institute’s mission extends beyond providing treatment within its premises to reaching citizens where they live, offering medical care, support, and health education. He stressed that these convoys embody the harmony between science, research, and human duty.
He concluded by expressing his sincere gratitude and appreciation to all participants in the convoy for their dedication and commitment to fulfilling their noble mission, specially Dr. Eman El-Wakil Chairman of the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee and Dr. Shaimaa Attia Deputy Head of the Technical Office for their efforts in organizing and supervisisng the convoy, stating his pride in the tangible success achieved in Wardan Village—an inspiring model of scientific and humanitarian cooperation in the service of the nation and its people.
