The Quality Unit has been established in the institute since 2001 as Medical Care Quality Improvement Unit, supervised by Professor Dr. Hanan Ali Sayed, an assistant professor of public health at that time. She has prepared programs for quality control systems and entered them in the research laboratories of the institute to update their performance in accordance with international standards.

In 2008, a contract was signed with the EQE Company to qualify the institute to obtain the ISO: 9001-2008 certification. An ISO team under supervision of Professor Dr. Mohamed Emad Esmat, a professor of surgery at that time, has been formed and it was responsible for carrying out internal reviews to follow up the workflow in the best way by preparing a guide for the quality procedure and determining procedures for the institute, defining the vision, policy and goals, preparing the annual plan, reviewing, preparing performance evaluation indicators, risk register, and the entire matrix of the institute, and following up work using the continuous improvement procedure.

The ISO 9001-2008 certificate was granted in August 2010 and it was renewed regularly and successfully for three consecutive times for a three-year certificate valid till August 2019. However, due to the update of the ISO system and the existence of a new version, the institute has to be qualified and developed to obtain the ISO 9001-2015 certification by EQE company. The certificate was awarded in September 2018. Throughout this period, the quality team has to keep the institute adhered to all ISO specifications in all hospital laboratories.

In 2019, whereas the country is in the process of implementing a comprehensive health insurance system for all citizens and health quality standards are required for contracting with all health facilities. The institute quality assurance unit prepared different policies and procedures for national safety requirements, various hospital planes with all standards required by the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation to obtain accreditation. Registration to achieve accreditation is established in May 2019 and all requirements implementations are in progress.
