TBRI Organizes 10 Specialized Workshops as Part of Its Annual Conference 2025

Under the patronage ofH.E. Prof. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, andProf. Mohamed Abbas Shemis, Director of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) and President of the Conference, the 2025 TBRI Annual Conference, commenced with broad participation from distinguished professors, experts, and specialists across various medical and research fields. As part of the conference, ten specialized workshops were held, aiming to explore the latest developments and technologies in scientific research and medical applications.

The event opened with a workshop titled "The Role of Scientific Research in Sustainable Development (Empowering Youth)", which addressed the crucial role of research in achieving sustainable development, with a strong focus on “empowering young researchers” and enhancing their capabilities to contribute to societal progress.

Surgical Workshops:

- "Live Laparoscopic Hernia Repair Workshop" featured a live broadcast of laparoscopic hernia repair surgeries, providing participants with the opportunity to observe advanced surgical procedures and interact directly with expert surgeons.

- The"Live Surgeries Thulium Fiber Laser & Bipolar Enucleation of the Prostate Workshop", organized by the Urology Department, showcased live surgeries using Thulium Fiber Laser and Bipolar Enucleation techniques. The session was led by Prof. Dr. Hazem El-Mansy, a distinguished urologist and a pioneer in this field in Canada.

Technical and Diagnostic Workshops:

- The “Molecular Diagnostics Lab” conducted the workshop"The New Era of 3D Digital PCR", discussing the latest innovations in three-dimensional digital PCR technology and its impact on improving diagnostic accuracy in medical research.

- The Electron Microscopy Unit presented "Electron Microscopy in Diagnosis of Renal Diseases", where participants explored cutting-edge electron microscopy techniques for diagnosing kidney diseases and their role in advancing treatment strategies.

- The Pathology Department hosted "Histopathological Techniques: Traditional and New", focusing on both conventional and emerging techniques in pathology, highlighting their significance in enhancing diagnosis and treatment.

Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Workshops:

- The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department organized "Recombinant Proteins and Mass Spectrometry", covering advanced techniques for studying recombinant proteins and the use of mass spectrometry in biological analysis.

- The Parasitology Department led "Key to Successful Stool Analysis Techniques and Staining", emphasizing precise techniques for stool sample analysis and staining to ensure accurate diagnosis.

Environmental and Public Health Workshops:

- The Environmental Research Department hosted "From Field Studies to Lab Analysis: A Workshop on the Assessment of Environmental Pollution", focusing on assessing environmental pollution from field studies to laboratory analysis.

- The Medical Malacology Department conducted "New Trends in Control of the Snail Intermediate Hosts of Medically Important Trematodes", exploring the latest strategies in controlling snail hosts responsible for transmitting medically significant trematode parasites.

A Platform for Knowledge Exchange and Scientific Collaboration:

The workshops attracted significant participation and engagement, featuring rich scientific discussions and knowledge exchange among researchers and specialists. The interactive sessions and live demonstrations created an engaging environment where participants could maximize their learning experience, pose questions, and explore the latest advancements in their respective fields.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Mohamed Abbas Shemis, TBRI Director and Conference President, emphasized that organizing such workshops reflects TBRI’s commitment to delivering advanced scientific content that aligns with modern challenges in research and medical applications. He highlighted thatknowledge-sharing among experts and researchers is key to achieving substantial progress in medical and applied research and stressed the importance of strengthening collaborations with national and international research institutions to drive scientific advancements forward.

These workshops were held as an integral part of the TBRI 2025 Annual Conference, reaffirming the importance of incorporating specialized training sessions within scientific conferences. They provide an interactive platform that fosters research development and enhances collaboration among researchers and experts, ultimately contributing to sustainable progress in medical and scientific fields.
