Opening of the annual conference of the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute 2025: a new horizon for scientific innovation in health and medical practice

Theodor Bilharz Research Institute opened its 2025 annual conference today under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ayman Ashour, Minister of higher education and scientific research, chaired by Dr. Mohammed Abbas Shemis, director of the Institute and chairman of the board of directors, who announced the launch of its activities on February 12 and 13.

The ceremony began with a speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abbas Shemis, director of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and chairman of the conference, where he welcomed the attending scientists, researchers and specialists in the fields of Medicine and scientific research, expressing his happiness to gather them at this important annual event, which aims to enhance scientific cooperation and exchange experiences between various local and international institutions.

He pointed out that this year's conference is an important opportunity to present the latest developments in the field of scientific and medical research, which will contribute to improving the level of health care in Egypt and the world. Today we are discussing very important issues related to the early diagnosis of diseases, the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence in the field of surgery and therapy. He stressed that scientific research is the cornerstone of the progress of societies, and that the institute will continue to strive for further achievements in this field.

He added: "I would like to thank all the participants of this conference, both speakers and attendees, for their continued support of the scientific research efforts at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute. Our partnership with local and international institutions reflects our commitment to advancing scientific research at all levels, and we are confident that these events will contribute to enhancing knowledge and developing future medical solutions."

 The opening ceremony was attended by a large number of dignitaries, where opening speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Omar Sharif Omar, Secretary of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, His Excellency the German ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Jurgen Schulz, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Awad Taj El-Din, advisor to the president of the Republic for Health Affairs, as well as Major General doctor Dr. Tarek Najdi, president of the Military Medical Academy, Prof. Dr. Adel Adawi, head of the Executive Office of the Arab Council for Health Specialties, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Taha, chairman of the General Authority for accreditation and health supervision, and Prof. Dr. Amr Helmy, former minister of Health.

The ceremony was also attended by a number of heads of institutes and research centers, where the ceremony was attended by .Dr. Mona Abdul Latif, director of the city of scientific research and technological applications, Dr. Mahmoud Ramzi, director of the Petroleum Research Institute, Dr. Abeer Mounir, president of National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries , Dr. Mohamed Jamal, president of the National Institute of calibration, and  Dr. Ibrahim ghiyad  director  of the metals research and Development Center. At the end of the ceremony, Professor Dr. Mohamed Abbas Shemis, director of  Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and chairman of the conference, honored the outstanding personalities who participated in the conference, presenting commemorative shields in recognition of their valuable contributions in supporting and promoting the fields of scientific research and medical development, and in recognition of the efforts exerted in the development of the health sector and enhancing international scientific cooperation.

It is worth mentioning that the annual conference of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute 2025 will witness the participation of more than 50 speakers from Egypt and abroad, and the latest developments in the field of early diagnosis of diseases, in addition to developments in diagnostic medicine and innovations in the diagnosis of parasitic diseases will be discussed in its sessions. The sessions will also address important topics related to liver cancer and its relationship with the C virus, early diagnosis of kidney failure and bladder cancer, the use of artificial intelligence and robotics in the field of surgery and colon cancer treatment, in addition to discussions on liver transplantation and developments in the field of endoscopy, as well as applications of nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, in addition to its use in the disposal of environmental pollutants.

The conference started with the first session, which deals with many important issues in the fields of Medicine and scientific research.
