Opening of a biological treatment clinic at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute for the first time at the level of research centers in Egypt

Concerning the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to upgrade the level of health care, and the government keenness to provide the latest treatment methods within hospitals,   a biological treatment clinic opened for patients with immune intestinal inflammation at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, for the first time at the level of research centers in Egypt.

The clinic was opened under the patronage of prof.  Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and prof.  Mohamed Abbas Shemis, Director of Theodor Bilharz Research Institute and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The clinic includes a specialized medical team of professors and doctors of the digestive system and liver, under the supervision of prof. Ayman Abdel Aziz, Professor and Head of hepatogastroenterology Department and Dr. Zakaria Matar, a specialist in hepatogastroenterology, and supervisor of the clinic, in addition to Dr. Sameh Badr, Head of the Endoscopy Unit at the Institute.

The clinic provides its services every Monday, and includes:

1. Diagnosis of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease using the latest diagnostic means such as endoscopy and laboratory tests.

2. Providing traditional treatments for immune intestinal diseases.

3. Using biological treatment for advanced cases, through drugs such as infliximab, adalimumab, and ustekinumab.

4. Regular follow-up of patients to monitor the development of their condition and prevent complications.

5. Conducting scientific research on the response of patients to biological treatment, and publishing the results locally and internationally.

The opening of the biological treatment clinic at Theodor Bilharz Research Institute represents a qualitative shift in the development of health care in Egypt, as it provides the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment for patients with immune intestinal diseases, reflecting the Institute's commitment to providing advanced health care.

This initiative also contributes to enhancing scientific research, and finding effective therapeutic solutions, which consolidates cooperation between research and medical institutions to improve the quality of health services provided to the Egyptian citizen.
