Inauguration of the Clinical Nutrition Unit at Theodore Bilharz Research Institute During the 2025 Annual Conference

In line with the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi regarding the importance of clinical nutrition in maintaining human health and improving patient conditions, and as part of the government commitment to establishing clinical nutrition units in hospitals across the country, the Theodore Bilharz Research Institute has inaugurated its Clinical Nutrition Unit—the first of its kind among research centers in Egypt.

The inauguration was held under the patronage of Professor Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Professor Mohamed Abbas Shemis, Director of the Theodore Bilharz Research Institute and Chairman of the Conference, on the sidelines of the institute's 2025 Annual Conference.

Dr. Shemis stated that the establishment of the Clinical Nutrition Unit at the Theodore Bilharz Research Institute marks a significant step toward enhancing evidence-based healthcare. This unit will play a pivotal role in improving patient health and providing comprehensive nutritional plans, positively impacting quality of life and preventing numerous chronic diseases.

The Clinical Nutrition Unit at the Theodore Bilharz Research Institute is a specialized center providing therapeutic nutritional care to patients.

It offers a range of services, including:

Nutritional Assessment: Evaluating patients' nutritional status to identify their specific needs.

Diet Planning: Designing personalized dietary plans tailored to each patient's health requirements.

Nutritional Counseling: Providing patients and their families with guidance on improving dietary habits.

Therapeutic Nutritional Care: Offering specialized therapeutic nutrition programs for various medical conditions.

The unit is staffed by a distinguished team of clinical nutrition experts, led by Professor Iman Ahmed Sultan, Professor of Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition and Director of the Training Unit at the National Nutrition Institute; Dr. Marwa Abdel Ghany Mohamed, Deputy Supervisor of the Unit and Assistant lecturer of Public Health at TBRI; and Dr. Wafaa Abdel Mageed, Consultant and lecturer of Public Health at TBRI. The team also includes clinical nutrition physicians, pharmacists, dietitians, and nursing staff to ensure the highest standard of patient care.

The launch of this unit represents a pioneering step in advancing clinical nutrition within research institutions, contributing to improved healthcare quality and supporting scientific research in this vital field.
