The research strategy of the Environmental Research Department aims to conduct research related to the freshwater environment. The research plan includes many modern environmental biological applications such as using living organisms (plants, bacteria, fungi, algae, and fish) in investigating freshwater courses as one of the causes of liver and kidney diseases in Egypt. As well as, studying the impact of environmental and climatic changes on biodiversity of aquatic organisms and spread of endemic diseases. The strategic plan also aims to rely on modern technologies such as nanotechnology in environmental applications. The strategy also seeks to link recent researches and projects of the department to the environment and society and attempt to link them to the industry through applied research outputs.
